Education Professions
The Education Professions Program lays the groundwork for students pursuing careers in education, including Teacher's Assistant, Teacher, Curriculum Developer, Guidance Counselor, School Administrator, and Special Education.
In the first year, students can earn 9 college credits from Ivy Tech Community College, followed by 6 credits in the second year. The program includes:
Year 1:
Principles of Teaching: Introduces educational careers, teaching preparation, and certification requirements, alongside Cadet Teaching for hands-on classroom experience approximately two days per week.
Child and Adolescent Development: Focuses on the growth of children from birth through adolescence, covering essential theories, influences on development, and observational techniques.
Teaching and Learning: Applies educational concepts and introduces technology in the classroom, allowing for hands-on experience with educational tools.
Year 2:
Education Professions Capstone: Provides extensive field experience, exploring exceptional children and literacy development through the Science of Reading. Students deepen their understanding of inclusive teaching techniques and special education policies, earning an additional 6 credits. This course can also be tailored for those interested in secondary education.
The Education Professions program equips students with the knowledge and skills essential for entry-level educational careers while also providing a solid foundation for pursuing advanced careers that require further education.
